Founded in Richardson, Texas in 1989, Citrix is now based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Santa Clara, California. The company began by developing remote access products for Microsoft operating systems. In the 1990s, Citrix became a leader in thin client technology built for accessing remote servers. Since 2001, Citrix has acquired more than a dozen other companies, allowing it to expand into server and desktop virtualization, as well as cloud, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), SaaS and wireless products. Citrix offers products for Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms. Its products include Citrix Access Gateway, Citrix Access Suite, Citrix Application Gateway, Citrix Cloud, Citrix GoToAssist, Citrix GoToMeeting, Citrix GoToMyPC, Citrix NetScaler, Citrix Password Manager, Citrix Presentation Server, Citrix Provisioning Services, Citrix Receiver, Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, Citrix XenMobile and Citrix XenServer. Citrix Receiver is free client software that provides access to XenDesktop and XenApp installations. Applications, desktops and data can be accessed securely from any device with Citrix Receiver, including smartphones, tables, PCs and Macs.
The Linux Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA) from Citrix Systems enables a hosted, shared desktop model for delivering Linux virtual desktops. It also enables app publishing for delivering Linux virtual apps. In 2010, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server was certified as a “Perfect Guest” virtual machine running on Citrix XenServer. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications can also be virtualized with Citrix virtualization solutions.
